ABC NorCal’s Painting Apprenticeship Program lasts a minimum of four years and 4,800 on-the-job training hours. The majority of experience is gained through practical on-the-job training.
A normal workweek is 40 hours, however, it can vary depending on weather conditions, job delays, or other unforeseen circumstances. Apprentices should be prepared to travel to job sites and training locations.
ABC NorCal apprentices earn competitive wages and wage rates are established by the state. The starting wages, about half of the salary of a trade professional, increase as the apprentice learns new skills, becomes more proficient and takes on more complex tasks. In addition to the quoted base wages, ABC NorCal apprentices earn health benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance and an employee assistance program.
ABC NorCal apprentices attend school while enrolled in the program. Expert-led classroom instruction includes theory, safety, proper technique and trade-specific fundamentals. Students also benefit from instructor demonstrations and simulations.
After completing the ABC NorCal’s Apprenticeship Program, graduates receive a journey level card and certificate of completion from the State of California and the US Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship. More importantly, they will have the skills and credentials necessary to succeed in today’s competitive workforce.
ABC NorCal’s Apprenticeship Programs were developed to increase the number of highly skilled craftspeople in the construction industry. Accredited by the State of California’s Division of Apprenticeship Standards and the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship, our apprenticeship programs adhere to all industry standards and regulations.
Because of the length of the program, commitment to the classroom and on-the-job performance requirements, one should be passionate about and dedicated to their chosen trade. When making selection decisions, ABC NorCal looks for candidates who want to become career painters.
